Clinical Pilates

We are so excited to start this health journey with you!

What is Clinical Pilates?

Clinical Pilates is a method of exercise taught by a physiotherapist instead of a Pilates instructor, to manage and treat a range of musculoskeletal conditions and injuries, or after surgery.

It focuses on strengthening and stretching muscle groups so that you are more resilient to muscular strain, joint pain, and injury, in order to improve your balance, breathing, control, core strength, focus, flexibility, strength, and posture.

Clinical Pilates sessions may help you to recover and strengthen after injuries and are sometimes done in conjunction with other forms of physical therapy. It may also benefit clients with chronic conditions.

By combining traditional Pilates principles with physiotherapy techniques, Clinical Pilates offers tailored exercise programs that are suitable for individuals of all fitness levels seeking to improve their physical health and well-being.

Benefits of Clinical Pilates

  • Improved Core Strength
  • Improved Flexibility
  • Improved Balance and Co-ordination
  • Better Posture
  • Reduced Neck Pain & Lower Back Pain
  • Injury Prevention
  • Injury Rehabilitation
  • Pre-natal and post-natal care
  • General overall health

Is it different to traditional Pilates?

Traditional Pilates emphasises overall fitness and general well-being through core strength, flexibility, and posture, while Clinical Pilates is specifically tailored to address individualized rehabilitation needs, injuries, or medical conditions.

Clinical Pilates sessions are typically conducted under the supervision of trained healthcare professionals, such as physiotherapists, who customize exercises to target specific areas of weakness, imbalance, or pain, often incorporating specialized equipment and evidence-based techniques. In contrast, traditional Pilates classes are more generalized and may not offer the same level of personalized attention or targeted rehabilitation.

How to book a Clinical Pilates session with Myphysio?

Prior to commencing clinical Pilates, your physiotherapist will conduct an assessment to determine your baseline function and identify any areas of impairments or dysfunction. A rehabilitation program will be individualised based on the results of your assessment, and adapts as you improve, in order to exercise safely and effectively.

Currently, Clinical Pilates with our Certified Pilates Instructors are available at our Epping and Baulkham Hills locations.
